The ICM’s 29th Triennial Congress will be a stimulating and unmissable event for midwives from all background and experience. The ICM Scientific and Professional Programme Committee (SPPC), is developing an inclusive programme with a wide range of activity which is aimed at strengthening midwifery at national, local and community levels.
South Africa is well known for its ‘Big 5’ in the world of nature and wildlife preservation. And it is to this theme that the 2011 Congress has turned to underline the Five Big Challenges facing Midwives Globally. Midwifery challenges are different throughout the world but many of them have common strands and these following five themes will run throughout Congress:
Globalisation
Listening to women and their partners
Enhancing the continuum of care to families
Enabling and strengthening midwives and midwifery practice
Cultural societal and indigenous knowledge impacting the care of child bearing families
The ACM NSW Branch’s 2010 Scholarship Guidelines will apply to this award.

State Conference 2010

Annual Conference Friday 17th & Saturday 18th September, 2010. "MIDWIFERY: PROVIDING A SAFE HARBOUR" at The Pavilion Kiama. What a fantastic conference for 2010. Over 230 midwives attended for two days of midwifery reflection, research and fun and frivolity. The program was varied and entertaining with our key note speakers presenting such notable introductions to each day.

Friday evening was celebrated at a nautical evening at the Kiama Leagues Club and while the food was the usual fare, the entertainment, quizes and celebrations were very memorable. Many a fine wench and the odd pirate was spotted in the crowd and the talent on the dance floor was outstanding!

Overall it was a great way for midwives to celebrate midwifery together and thank to the marvellous and ever-hard working State COnference Planning Committee for another successful State Conference.

International Midwives Day 2010

Thank you so very much to our membership and marketing team for organising such a wonderful trivia night on the 30th April.

Vanessa, Helen and Suellen put on a great event and ~ 100 midwives and their friends and families attended. The evening flowed smoothly and it was a great effort by all.

Thanks also to Doug, Phil and Neil who did a fabulous job as MCs, judges and entertainers.

Thanks to Ann for her wonderful raffle organisation - I understand the raffles raised over $300!

We announced the 2010 Midwife of the Year - Pat Brodie. Pat received her certificate and her gifts from KCA (thanks to Phyllis Picone) of a beautiful bunch of roses and an accommodation voucher.

It was fantastic to see so many younger midwives attending, including midwifery students and recent graduates.

All in all, a great night and thank you so very much to everyone for their hard work and commitment to the college.

Joanne
